There's also a less expensive SmartThings hub dongle that can support Z-Wave, Zigbee and Thread. Once you've connected your smart fridge to your smartphone and hub, it is very easy to use. SmartThings lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere. Notifications are sent to your phone when the fridge is opened or closed. samsung refridgerators can create schedules, adjust the temperature and set reminders. SmartThings was a founding member in the Home Connectivity Alliance. This alliance is working towards making the most important home appliances from various manufacturers compatible. Samsung's fridge has been around for a few years now and, although it provides a decent amount of features, the touchscreens aren't exactly an essential feature for the majority of people. This may change with the release of more software updates, but for the moment, these models are best for those who wish to have the most complete connected refrigerator that is possible. If you're not among them, you can pick up a cheaper model without the Family Hub to save some money. If you have many smart home appliances that you want to manage from a single screen, or you like the idea of a refrigerator with a giant touchscreen, it could be worth the cost.
